When working with clients, my intention is to listen to the body. While my work is grounded in traditional Swedish massage (the long flowing strokes that most people associate with massage) it also incorporates elements of myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and Reiki – depending on what is called for in the moment.  If needed, I can include hot stones and cupping to work with muscles that are very tight and constricted.  My work overall is gentle yet firm.  My personal belief is that the body responds in the long term to being gently nurtured rather than forced into relaxation.  Below is an overview of the modalities I work with.

Myofascial Release – the therapist uses slow sustained pressure to engage the fascia or the connecting tissue that encompasses all of the muscles, to help release chronic patterns of tension.
Craniosacral Therapy – can be a complete session in itself or incorporated into a regular massage.  This therapy is very subtle and can calm the nervous system to a deep sense of relaxation. It uses a series of holds predominately on the skull that is very gentle and light (the pressure is as light as the weight of a nickle). What may not obviously feel like much movement can create profound shifts in the body. I have found that combining regular massage and craniosacral therapy in one session provides deep relaxation and positive outcomes.
Reiki – is an energy technique that uses gentle laying on of hands and transmitting healing energy to the client.
Pre and Post-Natal – the time during pregnancy and after birth is a special time filled with an array of physical and emotional changes. Massage specifically focused on relaxation and relieving tired and aching muscles with the need of the mother-to-be and new mother in mind.
Caring Touch – this is a very gentle, light-pressure modality used predominately with those dealing with cancer or other issues where deeper work is contraindicated. Very relaxing and soothing.
Hot Stones – these are incorporated into a session when deeper work is needed. The heat and firmness of the stones help to gently soften and release muscles that are overly tight and constricted.
Cupping – this updated take on a traditional therapy helps bring greater circulation to an area and aids in releasing tight muscles. This is typically an addition to a regular session or can be a stand-alone process.

MVA – If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA), you are legally entitled to see the care providers of your choice. By Oregon law, insurance will pay for medically necessary massage therapy for injuries sustained in a car accident. Medical necessity can be obtained by a chiropractor, physician, naturopath, or osteopath after completing an exam. Oregon requires auto insurance companies to provide Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage on all policies. That means they will pay for treatments related to your injuries for up to one year from the date of the incident OR until your PIP benefits ($15,000) are exhausted. This is whether you were the driver, passenger, pedestrian, or bicyclist in the accident. PIP covers all health care, including chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, and physical therapy. You are covered regardless of who is at fault and regardless of the ultimate settlement for injuries received. In order to bill the insurance company, when coming in for treatment please bring the prescription/referral for massage with diagnosis code(s) from your physician, the name and address of the insurance company, the claim number, and the adjuster’s name and phone number.
